The photos above are of a supercritical flow in the Canal San Carlos at its junction with the Rio Mupocho in Santiago. Note the oblique shocks from the sidewall transitions. The downstream end is controlled by gates and a weir.

 

 

 

Above the El Tofo mine in Northern Chile this reservoir apparently was used to provide water to housing for mine personnel in the 40s and 50s. The Pacific Ocean is visible in the background. Altitude is approximately 1000 m.

 

 

 

 

 

The Mapocho River runs through the center of Santiago. An expressway is currently under construction adjacent to the river. In this picture you can see a temporary bypass channel and construction being carried out in the wet as can be seen by the Mercedes truck up to its axles in water..
